I had the same problem with the SID in my 99 9.5 2lt tourbo. The oficial dealer here in Athens Greece told me that the SID should be substituted by a new one. The cost around 350 Euros. I finally found out that the problem is cost free and NO NEED to peplace the SID !!!!!! THEY ARE CHEATING US !!!! THE SOLUTION : Remove the unit from the dashboard (easily like a conventional radio/tape player) , unscrew the bolts around the cover and gett access to the interior. Then the only thing you have to do is to apply some pressure to the ribbon connecting the electronic mainboard with the display pannel AND THIS IS ALL !!!!! Because of extreme temperature variations in the interior of the car (Summer-Winter) and probably of the rattles caused to the motin on rough surfaces and to whatever else, the ribbon looses complete contact and the pixels start to fade out or dissaper at all. I tried it to my car four months ago and since then the SID shows everything just right and clear as new !!!!!
