There are no pins, springs and clips of the nature that I think that you are referring to.

There is a wire spring on the outboard face of the caliper which holds the sliding caliper tight against the fixed part of the caliper, with the 'ears' of the pad backing plates sandwiched in between. You can easily see throught the wheel if this spring is missing or mis-applied. So check for that.

The EBC instructions explicitly refer to pad shims and state that there arn't any supplied or used, and also states to not to attempt to remove and use such from the OEM pads. They go on to state that antisieze grease should be used between the pad and caliper etc. So for the outer soliding capliper, there is are two large contact regions that need to have this applied, or a brake pad anti squeal compount. On the inboard side, there is only the annular contact ring of the piston. I put a thinn film of anti sieze on the backing plate, around the springs that slide into the hollow caliper piston. So you can't use much there. I also avoid getting any foriegn materials on the pistons outer weather boot.

I think that it takes a while to bed in the EBC pads. See my post from this weekend RE installing and bedding in new pads. There is a link to a good article elsewhere that should be read concerning brakes.

No complaints here. I had to make a sudden stop on the expressway today. I was shocked by how fast I stopped!
