I think in the Mid Atlantic region A/S tires will do just fine. I live in NJ and had mounted winter tires riligously for several years, but now have chosen to run A/S for winter. I know that nothing beats a dedicated winter tires in winter but my situation was that it hardly gets snow in NJ and I usually ended up driving winter tires on dry pavement which would wear them out very quickly. and they would last only 2 season at most. Just my $02 worth.
