Contrary to what you might think dealers and especially salespeople don't covet cash buyers over buyers who need to borrow money. Since you are walking in the door with financing from an outside source - either the internet, your own bank, credit union - it doesn't matter, you are essentially a cash buyer. Yes, dealerships make money when they sell you financing, whether from the manufacturers financial unit or an outside lender they match you with. Lately, manufacturer sponsored rates have been so low that you don't feel, or even care that the dealer is making profit on the financing...but if they are placing you with an outside lender....it may behoove you to shop around for your own rate and cut out the point(s) the lender is giving the dealership.

I don't think you can call these 'sweetheart' deals like your being screwed, by getting you on-the-spot financing, the dealer is providing a service - you are under no obligation avail yourself of it. Caveat Emptor!

I've got no clue why your business was turned away. In talking with local dealer friends they tell me that there is less profit in a cash transaction, but they don't discourage them. Was the car you wanted on the lot? If it wasn't, that digs in their profits even more because they've got to pay to have it brought in from another dealership. Also, maybe they had a bad experience with the lender you chose?
