I put an Aero ECU in my '99 LPT and didn't have any problems w/ just doing that. You won't acheive the same power levels or boost as an Aero, but it's definitely a step up. Expect around 11psi instead of the 7psi stock (stock might be a bit higher on your '02 since they boosted the power from 170 to 185). Hope this helps.
