for as long as I can remember! I don't see any reason why this would change.
Back in 1994, I came close to getting a 5-speed 9000 Aero at the end of that model year--a dealer offered it to me for $30,000 (I hadn't even haggled with him yet) and the MSRP was around $38,000!
This past August, my '02 9-5 Aero (MSRP $41,000) was $33,000 for a cash buy or $34,800 on a 1.3% APR lease.
If you really want a new one, it can be had for an amazing price. Just get it at the end of the model year; plan your lease/purchase during the months of August to September (there might even be some leftovers in October). Even if you have to double-up for a couple of months, it could be well worth it.
As Mike said, no need for a big down payment. In fact, with a low interest rate, it's best to put down as little as possible.
