Trouble with Fuel Gauge

Has anyone already had trouble with the fuel gauge? This is my third 9-5 and each of them has had the same problem: after I have filled in the tank, it takes one or two days for the fuel gauge to go to the top and indicate the correct level. On my previous 9-5's, from time to time, the gauge dropped to zero (the tank being full) and stayed there for a while (several days) and suddenly, went up again. I never had a clear explanation from the garage: some told me it was the measuring device in the tank (which was very expensive to replace as it was linked to the fuel pump), some told me it was in the dashboard. On my first car, it has never been fixed, on my second, it has been fixed, but the garage did not gave a comprehensive explanation.

Now, I drive a diesel model and I would suppose the fuel pump and measuring device are totally different from the gazoline model, but I have the same issue (the car having 20.000 kms on the clock and only 5 months old !). The garage told me to bring the car in for checking, but I do not want to go through the same loss of time I already experienced with my previous vehicles.

Any suggestions/advices ?
