I own a 2001 9-5 Aero sedan, so it should be the same transmission as yours. For point of reference, I've had a BMW Z3, BMW 328i, Honda Civic, Dodge Neon, and Subaru Forester, all with MT's.
The Aero is definitely not the cream of the crop, but I don't have any problem matching rpm's, etc., to get smooth shifts. I prefer the clutch to the 328i's; the z3 and the Civic probably had the best combo of clutch and shifting action. The Aero is similar to the Forester, a notch above the Neon. The 328i is a bit better than the Aero and the Forester.
Like all MT's, there is a learning curve associated with the Aero, and it took a few months to become totally comfortable with the shifter. I can shift smoothly and fast w/o problems. The throws are a bit longer than I'd like, but cest la vie.
Is there an option to go to another dealer and check it out with them! Or, drive another 01 Aero with MT to compare?
