Hi,
In the interest of full-disclosure, I too drive a 9-5 with I4.
What do you call SAAB and what do you call GM? There was a time when
SAAB meant two-stroke 3 cylinder engine. For THOSE purists, the slant
Triumph I4 was heresy. Some thought the classic angular shape of 99
was homely for departing from the more classical rounded shapes of 92-96.
If you cannot see that 9-3SS is a great automobile, you're in the
minority. For perhaps the very first time, an automobile bearing the
Saab emblem is gaining more than a cult following.
There was a good reason why Saabs did well in 70s and 80s. It was
one of the few cars which had good power and met emissions standards.
Then, the rest of the automobile industry caught up to Saab, and when
GM bought a stake in Saab, Saab was in serious financial trouble and
unable to pay for ever mounting development costs.
Yes, NG900 was an unmitigated disaster, but if you've stuck with Saab
through NG900, 9-3SS is vindication for Saab community's patience.
Look at 9-3SS. It is FWD and consequently is very much at home
in the snow. It has a powerful and light turbo-charged engine which
will be tuned to produce more horsepower (about 250bhp). It handles
as well if not better than any C900 or 9-5.
Minus the hatch, that is what I would call the Saab ideal.
Saab will not be Chevy, and please don't utter such inflammatory
statements again.
thanks
Jae
