Yes, I believe that the cover just snaps on (I imagine that only the painted cover on the front of the mirror needed to be replaced). The cover on mine also broke off when a passing land-splitting motorcyclist hit it. The mirror folded forward, but the force knocked off the trim piece and broke off the mounting tabs.
I understand that this is a fairly common problem, which I learned from the parts manager at the local dealer who had the parts on hand. Fortunately, I was able to recover my piece from the ground and other than the broken tabs, it had no noticeable damage.
I used some 3M double-sided tape to hold it on the car... looks like new.
I can't imagine you would have much trouble mounting your new piece yourself... though since you just paid a bunch of money to have it painted, it may be worth your trouble to have the body shop mount it so you don't risk damaging it.
