My owners' manual specifies ACEA A3/B3. Saab 5W30 and 0W30 is ACEA A1/B1, which shows lower viscosity in the bearings (HTHS), but otherwise the specs are the same. Insufficient HTHS viscosity has been (in so many words) blamed by at least one independent Saab tech for observed bearing damage in customer cars.
You could just as well use a semi-synthetic oil meeting meeting Saab's viscosity and grade recommendations - the only one I've found is called Shaffer 7000 something - and it 5W30 but meets ACEA A3/B3.
I've devoted 6 pages of text to the subject in NINES #261 (January,2003). I'd recommend your reading it!
