All the computers are attached to the two-wire serial bus (well, there's two of them, one for the engine and all its stuff, and one for the radio/heater and all their stuff - along with one of the computers that talks to both). I'd rather suspect a connector than a computer failure, but if I'm a tech, I wouldn't tear down a dashboard to look for a loose connector unless I had the MIU on hand in case the connector's fine - which if it did make it out the door of the factory, how loose could it be? Most of today's connectors are positive locking type, so they're either off or on, not loose and intermittent.
I'd really be surprised if the two occurrences are related, though. And a "check engine" light, with OBD II, should reset itself once the error code has been clear for a number of start cycles...
