Made the trip this morning my '02 Aero. Left at 4:00 AM, catching the back end of the big storm. As usual, the Aero was incredible to drive--the only car I could possibly sit in for eight hours straight with no complains. 30.1 MPG at an average speed of 62 MPH (New York City rush hour, accident and storm related traffic slowed me down).

Things were touch and go for a few seconds on I95 in Connecticut. Came over the top of a hill only to see four cars spun out ahead of me along with a police cruiser flashing lights. Apparently, the great state of CT had forgotten to salt this stretch of road and it was covered with a sheet of ice. I had slowed from about 80 to 70 MPH when the rear started to come around.... ESP/TCS/EBD/etc. were working overtime as I fought to straighten her out--car was pointed 45 degrees to the left and drifting into the left lane, then overcorrected back 45 degrees to the right, drifting into the breakdown lane (and alarmingly on collision course with the police car!) before it finally corrected. Stupid me for leaving the Primacys on, but I figured I could get away with it living in DC. Yikes!

Anyway, I remain convinced that the Aero is the greatest, most comfortable highway cruiser out there. In the Aero, the miles just roll back effortlessly. A couple minor gripes:

- Climate control system is erratic. Doesn't factor in the sunlight heating effect properly, and 70 degrees is completely different depending on whether or not you are running the AC compressor.

- I love the rain sensing wipers in the rain, but they're TERRIBLE for mucky salt kicked up from the road into your windshield. They don't allow enough water to accumulate before activating, thereby leaving the windshield with white salt streaks. No way to slow down the intermittent timing enough for it to be useful. Also, Saab OEM wipers are terrible.

Otherwise, this car is so good I may just buy it outright after the lease.

Happy New Year!
