I took my first road trip in my '02 Arc over the holidays. I bought the car Labor Day and the first 3k miles where mainly local. We left Atlanta right before Christmas and drove down to Savannah and then to Central Florida, on to southwest Florida before coming back to Atlanta. What a great road car. It is comfortable, holds as much as Santa's sleigh, has good performance and gets great fuel mileage. I got 30 mpg on the leg from Atlanta to Savannah (250 miles). After that there was local driving combined with the highway miles but averaged 27.2 over the whole 1500 miles. Not bad for a car rated at 18 and 26. BTW, coming into Savannah we saw two trucks loaded with new Saabs heading west on I-16. Savannah is about 65 miles north of the port in Brunswick. I was wondering if Brian's Cosmic Blue demo was on one of them.

There were a few features on Hannah (my 9-5) that really work nice on a road trip. The stereo is great. We listened to CDs, books on tape, and the radio. The Auto Search feature is great when you come into a new town and have no idea what the local radio stations are. It loads the 6 strongest stations in your presets. When we decided to do an all nighter on 500 mile trip home I was a little considered because of the cold tempatures (near freezing). It was nice to check the weather band and find out there was no percipation in the forecast. I never thought much about the night panel feature but when you are burning miles on the interstate in the middle of the night it was nice to turn out the non-essential lights. I wasn't crazy at first with the cruise control buttons but I am getting use to them and the cruise works flawlessly. During the trip I used the moon roof, ventilated seats and the heated seats. All were nice to have. Another feature I found useful was the miles to go on your current tank of gas readout. On the interstate in unfamiliar territory that is reassuring. I used OnStar for the first time trying to find an address. It worked well. Not well enought to justify paying for it with my money but it worked well.

We did have one interesting happening. On I-4 near Disney World the traffic was stop and go. I made one quick stop and dumped the dog off the back seat onto the floor. When the wife reached around to pick her up she hit the key and turned the car off. Hmmm, it was real bummer until I realized what happened.

All in all this is a great road car. I look forward to a lot more trips.
