The little bit of vibration you get with the 2.3L is a charactoristic. I wouldn't call it a problem. The little bit I get through the wheel isn't that noticable. Just for grins,
I'll set a wine glass on top of the valve cover and see if it spills. Even so, the engine is smooth as silk at operating speeds; Saab has taken great pain to assure that by incorporating not one, but two counter-rotating balancing shafts (chain, not belt driven).
And where else can you get a hemi without buying a Dodge?
That right!, these engines feature a hemispherical cylinder head for improved combustion and power.
I for one, get a kick out of knowing that Saab manages to get so much performance out of such a small displacement motor. That they do it using a 9:1 compression ration without spinning the engine up to 6, or 7000 rpms.
That little powerplant defies conventional wisdom. At least, it certainly violates some of my old paradigyms.
