Lowering the inflation pressure has helped improve the handling; I lowered it from 39F/36R to 32F/32R (which is what SAAB recommends in the owner's manual for light loads on 205/55-16 winter tires). The car doesn't tramline severely anymore and I'm happy to report that wet grip is still excellent...
I was driving on the Long Island Expressway earlier, which was soaked with freezing rain, when suddenly, up ahead and to my right, the driver of a huge, slow moving garbage truck decided that half of my lane was his! I couldn't swerve to the left, as that lane was occupied, so I slammed on the brakes and thankfully, the Gislaveds gripped beautifully!
Funny thing was, the women seated in the back had absolutely no idea how close we were to wrecking -- yes, the SAAB had slowed down suddenly, but it did so without undue drama -- it decelerated straight and true, without even needing to call upon the ABS.
Thank you, SAAB, for these AMAZING brakes, and thank you, Gislaved, for the prodigious amount of wet grip your winter tires provide at 33'F (near freezing) on a rain-soaked expressway!
