The L&R speakers on the dash are for a 3.5" mominal speaker. The Harmon Kardon package has smallish drives in a 3.5" frame.
For HK L&R speakers, the Saab part number is 4616967. the speaker also carries a 65W47 number as well, HK's perhaps, and what appears to be a date code. It is 35mm deep and wil fit a 77mm hole, however the hole in the dash is 83mm. On the left there is room for 65mm of speaker depth, 45 on the right. Depth is limited by air duct space in both cases. These speakers measure 2.3 ohms with a good Fluke DVM. The bolt circle is 115mm. Any 3.5" aftermarket speaker should fit. Watch for some coax designs with protruding tweeters. The Infinity Kappa units are known to fit well.
The center speaker is a strange duck. It measures at 5.6 ohms. Partnumbers are: 4619086 65WA45. Bolt circle is 84mm, needs a 65mm hole, hole in dash is 69mm. The depth is again 35mm, and ther is 43 mm available.
While the L&R drivers are smallish for their frame, they are larger than the center driver.
The dash is all plastic and perhaps 3/8" deap. So no metal to cut if you are so inclined. With the L&R units, there is almost no working height below the windshield. There are U shaped spring-nuts to recieve the screws. The dash would seem to have good dampening and anti-rattle properties. The grills are easy to pry up, use a thin blade. When refitting the end grills, there might a a danger of putting the back plastic 'legs' through the driver.
The driver cones are paper-like, not tweeter, no dual cone. The complete driver is covered with a dust blocking black paper that might be a problem itself. There is a voice coil cover below where you would expect it and other similar speakers don't have this, it might be cosmetic at best and detrimental to the sound as well. With a suitalbe light, you can see pass the black paper cover. The speaker surround sees quite confining. I expect that there could be a mit range hole bettween the woofers and these drivers. The highs are certainly truncated.
