I love my big black 02' Linear. I drive it in Sport Mode at all times for the smooth sensation of sailing along even our stubbornly congested Chicago freeways. Get it with the premium package. Seats, stereo, etc are really worth the small addl' price after negotiation.
Also, not to poo-poo the nifty 9-3SS, especially as I begin to see more and more of them around Chicago--it helps that we have like 8 dealers!!--but, come on, who would choose the little scarab car over the glorious 9-5 Linear when the price difference is so negligible. If Saab could somehow get the word out just how friggin reasonably priced the Linear really is it would be the next Acura 3.2TL. For 30-31k there is no other car that can touch the 9-5 Linear. The closest comparision in size and feature is probably the highly praised Acura 3.2TL, but, this is a wholly generic car when viewed with the 9-5. And Saab, like Honda, seems to have mastered the manufacturing of the 9-5, too. Mine's been flawless at 9,476 miles. In fact, I guess b/c the break-in period is over it is driving better than ever, even in our harsh Chicago winter this year.
One other observation, I think the 9-5 looks suprisingly good in polar white. It highlights the moldings. Very Swedish. Silver for some reason seems a bit generic after the 02' redesign, though past Saabs in silver were always my favorite. My black one makes people think of a limo when it is shiny clean, which is not always the best impression one can hope to portray but I generally love it's monochrome blue-blackness. Hazlenut has a sort of charm, in a Euro Honda Accord kind of way. The dark gray metallic is nice, too. My cosmic green loaner was a little weird. Like a big mint. The midnight blue is cool, though would it get old? Maybe not. I love the dophin grey they offer on the 9-3SS. That is a really cool color for the trendy minded Audi folk.
Anyway, I'm rambling. Feel good and buy the Linear from a dealer you enjoy.
