My new '02 5-spd auto trans seems to slip when upshifting from 2nd to 3rd. Has anyone else experienced this? The RPMs visibly increase by 200-300 for a prolonged second, then it settles in. All other gear shifts are normal to me: quick, clean and smooth. The slippage I feel when leaving 2nd sometimes causes me to back off slightly on the pedal, to "ease it in" to 3rd, like you would if you had a failing tranny on a 20-yr old car. The problem is more pronounced in very cold weather, of which we've had plenty. The car has only 1000 miles on it.
If this is, indeed, a "learning transmission" (which I never heard of), is it getting used to me easing up and shifting itself accordingly? I know they're quirky, but that seems crazy. Going in for 1000-mi service next week and I plan to ask about this. My 2000 9-5 SE never had this problem. Any other insights?
