Norm's right, esp about potholes. If your wife is the primary driver it probably makes sense to stick with 16 inch and just upgrade the rubber.
If I had to pick a good wheel in 17 inch, I would strongly consider the new OZ Superleggara ("Super Light") which weighs about _15_ pounds in that size. It is reasonably priced too, at about $280 USD through Tire Rack or other discount suppliers. I am not sure if the 9-5 fitment is quite available yet in the USA. The sales rep I talked to at Discount Tire said they would be here "about March".
Losing 25 to 30 pounds of unsprung weight would do more to improve the car's handling than most other mods.
I ordered the optional BBS RKIIs for my new Aero Wagon. I like their look more than any other wheels. But they are close to $500USD each if you had to replace them due to damage.
