I think "new or used?" comes into the equation. There's little doubt that the V6 has had fewer DI cassette and turbo failures than the LPT 4 (and perhaps the Aero 4, but I'm less certain about that). My conclusion is that the V6 will be the more reliable used 9-5.
I'm willing to give Saab the benefit of a doubt and presume that for new cars, they've corrected these shortcomings. That said, if I were buying a used LPT4 from a dealer, I'd have them install a new DI cassette as part of the deal, and maybe have them specifically warrant the turbo against failure for some length of time. Beyond those two shortcomings, either car will be equally reliable, so it boils down to personal preference--which car does she prefer to drive?
I'm happy with my V6, but refuse to say anything nasty about the 4. The engine itself is fine.
