The amount of time you spend on boost is really only a few seconds at a time. When you increase the boost, you are on boost for even shorter periods of time.

Your selection of engine oil and changing frequency has effects that are orders of magnitude greater influence than the increase boost pressures. Your allowing the engine to warm up properly before getting on boost has a huge influence on engine life as well.

Saab puts out 250HP in the I-4. And they make you pay a big premium for that added boost. The engine can withstand the stresses of higher boost with no problems.

If such increases in boost pressure were able to take the engine to stress levels high enough to cause mechanical damage, there are many many highly modified engines that would have failed by now. So you can take that history as a measure of what the engine can manage.

So be open minded!
