in order to get grime off, you NEED something to wipe the grime.... spray will remove most salt and visible dirt but...

example... take a dirty car to the self-carwash with the power sprayers. The sprayers are MUCH more powerful than the new headlamp washers, and when you spray your car even with the soap and all, the car looks clean BUT if you let it dry, you will see that there is still a layer of grime on the car... sure it looks mostly clean, but wipe your finger across the paint and you will see that there is still grime on the paint.

even BETTER example!!!: notice the area of grime on your windshield that is everywhere your wipers cant reach (ie- the wiper area is clean, and you can CLEARLY see where the wipers cant reach because there is dirt on the places the wipers cant touch)... now go to a carwash that only uses sprayers, spray all you want, and when it dries you will STILL see a light DIRTY area in the outer areas where the blades dont reach.

proves that the wiper is essential in getting a full clean. however, the sprayers will still remove most salt and dirt/mud, but not as much as a wiper/washer.

i think they switched to washers only because of the new projector beams, which have a softer material for the shielding which cannot resist the wiper and will probably scratch easily.

just my thoughts
