Radar Detector help

Was going down an interstate today in the right lane at 75 (have never been bothered at only 10 over) and came up over a rise to be greeted by a trooper with a hand held radar gun pointing right at me. As I just about reached him he jumped into his car and on the way by he was pulling out with his lights on. Well, you know the feeling, my stomach felt sick and I got all clammy. Why is he picking on me - does he just want a Saab notched in his belt?? Has it been a slow day?? Maybe he is just going to pull me over to tell me that a Saab should be going faster than 75 because the engine is hardly running above 2 grand on the tachometer and it will build up cobwebs. No, he pulled over a guy that was behind me in the middle lane. How did he do that? What are they using now? My detector didn't even peep at me. It works great around town with the locals and does real good when I go by a grocery store and push my garage door opener but have you ever been pulled over by one of those? But it is well over ten year old. Can you Saabers help me? Three questions - 1. What are these troopers using now that allowed him to shoot right by me and my detector didn't blink? 2. Will a newer detector pick up these aimed intermittent signals or would I still be unprotected? 3. I have seen lots on this Board about the Valentine One but radartest.com gives the Escort Passport 8500 slightly higher marks - what do you think? Thanks in advance for any input!!
