Mike -
as one of those who "graduated" from VW to Saab, let me explain why...
the VW was a great car (99 GLX). Beautifully finished, etc. But, after 30K the car began to feel worn. I don't know how else to say it. I recalled my aunts old SPG (320K and still running) that felt tired, but never worn. And she never maintained that car (20K mile oil changes, etc). Most abused car I've ever seen. So that caused me to shop around. The lease was up anyway.
Fortunately, my VW dealer (and the sales experience associated with it) also sells Saab. So we went in thinking '02 GLX 4Motion, or W8 depending on lease numbers. Fuggedaboutit. VW wanted (as a three time previous owner) 5K down and 450/mo. on either car. For the honor of having an engine replaced (W8) or coilpacks issues (V6 or W8). Which brought us to last years 9-5 promo (3500 at 299/mo), the dealer gave us a ton of loyalty off (2K) so here we are...
The Saab does not impress mny on the first drive. It grows on you, wespecially if you are looking in the Pasat/Camry/Accord range, since you are looking for an appliance to drive. But, hell, just by the numbers alone, this should be an easy deal..........
And they won't see themselves on every corner.
