Eric,
Before installing the upgraded ECU, I really had the itch for a new car, especially since I have had my 9-5 for close to 5 years. I looked at the G35 (ugly interior, grabby brakes), the C320 (overpriced, depressing interior, problematic), BMW 330i (see them everywhere and just not for me) and a few others I can't remember. I always was comparing them my 9-5 and what those cars were missing. The 9-5 has character; there is something different about them that make them a joy to drive. Even little things like the second concave mirror seem so logical that I expect it now on other cars. I also enjoy the seemingly imcompatible combination of power and great fuel economy. I don't want to sound like some Saab crazed fanatic, but I think the 9-5 has achieved a balance (sports car and daily driver) that is rare today. With that said, I owned two Z cars in the 80s and enjoyed them and I know the new one is a completely different animal, but for me it is the mighty 9-5! Let us know what you decide on.
