I know they are completely different cars and in different classes, but since the 3-series is the benchmark for sport sedans, I figured I'd mention this.
I drove the 330 for much of last week (it's a friends) and man...I can't tell you how glad I was to climb back into my 9-5 :). Things of annoyance... The clutch take-up is terrible! It seriously lacks the linear feel of our 9-5 clutches. The steering was also on the light side. BMW has said they have fixed this in the '02 models. I haven't driven one, so I can't say. Our 9-5's does a much better job of letting us know what's going on w/ the front tires.
The 3-series does have the buttery smooth inline-six w/ the smooth shifting 5spd (Saab could learn a thing or two about shift quality) but I was really happy to return to my car. One blip of the throttle, thrust of the turbo, and below of the Remus, not to mention the way she hunkers down into the corners makes me choose the Saab over the BMW as my everyday driving companion :).
