If you are a Saab fan you are spreading an untrue paradigm. Saab resale, according to Consumer Reports, has been upgraded to average. When you calculate in the massive incentives and low prices availible on new Saabs versus the actual resale value, Saab isn't that bad.
I can name many premium brands with worse resale, Infinity, Volvo, Jaguar, Cadillac, Audi. Automobile depreciation is a fact, for any brand. Popularity equates to resale, as Saab sales increase resale goes up.
The BMW and Mercedes people tout their resale, but their cars depreciate massively too. I call it German arithmetic. Pay $10,000 more for a comparable Bimmer or Benz upfront versus a Saab, and yes it will be worth $5,000 more in 5 years. A seemingly better percentage, but actually greater depreciation.
It's a win-win for a customer to have a competitive or cheaper payment and a superior Saab, and a lower residual or buyout too.
