"ELC" (diesel coolant)?

1) it would be inappropriate to assume that just b/c some designs show water pump cavitation under some conditions (the cavitation shown in the MOTOR article was during high altitude testing, and involved a cast iron pump housing). At the GM proving grounds, cars are run for 150,000 miles for routine "durability tests", including Saabs. Speaking to a Desert Proving Grounds driver during the 2002 Master Tech Challange, they said "Saabs had a lot of overheating issues when we first started running them here (1991), but not any more."
B) IF you are worried about cavitation, another choice (besides "blue stuff", which requires a throughout flush) is so called "Extended Life Coolant." This is an OAT coolant with nitrites added specificially to prevent cavitation on the wet cylinder liners commonly used on heavy duty diesel engines. According to Shell, ELC is good for 600,000 miles, with a single recharge of the nitrite at 300,000. Judging from the rated life for ELC for stationary engines, though, that's 600,000 miles driving night and day. Pick an average speed and do the math - it works out to around 5 years...
III) G05 is a BASF spec coolant. ZEREX was owned by BASF prior to Ashland purchasing the brand. MB coolant is very similar to, if not identical to G05. Many people swear that MB coolant is the cat's meow...
Myself, I'm going to follow a 3 or 4 year change cycle with Dexcool until I see a problem with SAABS using it.
