Although activated carbon filters can be "re-activated", it is not by washing and I don't think it can be done at all with Saab's new style. Having experience with use of activated carbon filters for industrial odors I know that the loose carbon particles can be removed and baked in an autoclave type device to drive off the adsorbed (not absorbed!) odor causing compounds.
With the new style filter I am not sure if the carbon particles are sandwiched into the fabric media or are somehow bonded/coated to the media. New activated carbon filters need to be kept in an airtight pouch until inserted for use.
NOTE TO SAAB - you are packaging the replacement filters wrong! Customers wil be spending $40USD+ and may receive filters that have the activated carbon already exhausted do to contaminent adsorpton during storage!
