I think I can answer most of your questions:
1. It is an entire computer unit replacement, for 2000 4-cyl lpt's only.
2. It is a Saab part sold by Saab. Warranty will still be valid, may require dealership installation as part of warranty though.
3. See above.
4. Posters with this upgrade have said their MPG stays the same.
5. Unsure on this one. Instructions on http://www.genuinesaab.com for installation of a Speedparts brand unit make it appear that any competent D-I-Y mechanic can do the job with only a nut driver and their fingers. But I know the Speedparts brand unit is programmed at the factory to match your car (they collect the old ECU serial number for specific info prior to programming your new ECU) The Saab unit may (only a guess) be shipped partially dumb, and require a mechanic with a Tech II device to do the final programming upon installation.
6. The last cost I saw was around $800USD for the part, assume 90 minutes to install(?).
Hope this helps, but check out the Speedparts unit. For approximately the same price you get a 64HP gain instead of Saab's 30HP increase.
