...I can say your experience in Saab dealership v. Infiniti dealership is right on the money. I sold my J30t to buy my current certified '99 9-5 SEV6 last October, and I too took a G35 sedan out for a test drive while comparison car shopping. In fact, I had every intention of remaining loyal to the Infiniti brand, but my experience at the local Infiniti dealership soured me on the G35.

I don't know what has happened with Infiniti the past few years, but their level of customer (current and prospective) service has plummetted dramatically. My shopping and subsequent ownership experience with Saab (New Salem Saab of Albany, NY area) has been nothing short of extraordinary. I too was given a thorough introduction to the 9-5 by the salesman, then given the keys and told to have a nice day with the car. 20 minutes of talking numbers and my wife and I left without pressure to think things over. Two hours later the deal was closed over a cellphone call. With the Infiniti, it was all about the schmoozing, talking up how sweet the G35 is and how much the other competitors "just aren't real driver's cars". Really cheesy stuff. About a month ago, the Infiniti salesman called me at work to ask if I wanted to stop by and take out a 6-speed G35. I told him I had bought the 9-5, and he said I should come test it anyway, as it was a hot car to drive. I asked what was the point? He didn't really have an answer but said I should still come on by and check it out. No thanks.

As far as the G35 itself, the more I see them on the roads, the more I dislike their appearance, although the coupe is a visual improvement over the 4-door. I hated the interior...tacky/cheap looking and too cramped for me, the stereo was much worse than the one in my old J30, and while launching in 1st was a cheap thrill, the manual mode shifting in auto was harsh and slow responding, felt terrible actually.

I've never regretted buying the Saab, and am comfortable in the knowledge that I never get that ominous sense that I bought a car I really don't like all that much.

Treat me with respect and sell me a good product, and you'll have me for life. I gave Infiniti that chance and they blew it. Saab so far has me locked in.
