Installed Kappa 32.5's- my addendum

I've just completed my replacement of the side dash speakers on a 2003 Aero Wagon with Infinity 32.5's. they sound perceptibly better. here's the problem i ran into. The holes were cut quite snug for the stock speakers, which are completely flat, and the new ones sat a bit high. With the black spacer ring pulled off, the tweeter crown still sits up there (if that's what it is)and when you put the grill down, it snaps in but the little dome still presses against the underside of the grill, pushing it up a bit. I rubbed the skin off my knuckles sanding the hole on the driver's side, and gained 1/8" . I was trying to open the hole so the metal ring of the speaker would sit within the hole and the tabs sit flat on the screw holes. Not quite, but i put it together and it sounded good. On the right, the top clearance is worse, and i didn't even try - just screwed it down hard and it also sounded good. I think much better than the stock. What's nagging at me now is whether the hard contact of the plastic grill against the top of the speaker is costing me quality. I can't hear the difference, grill on or off, but my ears aren't that good. Incidentally, for the amp connection (the green molded connector with two female terminals) I used u-shaped crimp terminals (red was the samllest in my kit)and cut off one leg of the U. Very simple, that part. The speakers were $58. mail order (list about $125). If soemone know a clever way to make those holes bigger with no top clearance, let me know.
