I got the info from my local Saab mechanic. It takes about an hour to do and you get very familiar with parts of your interior that you haven't seen before.

1) Remove the small squarish carpeted cover on the side of tunnel hump in the passenger footwell. It comes off by depressing the center of the plastic rivets ~1/8 inch with the tip of a phillips screwdriver. Pull the rivets out with your fingers and remove the cover.

2) Remove the knee panel below the glove box. There are a few screws just below the glove box hinge. The leading edge sits in two nylon grips, expand their fingers and pull towards the passenger seat to remove the panel. Tougher to do than it sounds!

3) Remove the glove box. There are 4 screws in the front corners of the glove box opening. The other screws take the door off, you don't need to remove the door. Unclip the glove box light from the side of the box and the small A/C hose that cools the glove box, then remove the box entirely.

4) There are approximate 10 6mm hex screws holding the side cover on the heater module. A flexible socket extension (coil spring type) really helps here. Remove the screws and remove the cover, one screw is nearly inaccessible.

5) Remove old filter(s). If you are lucky, there is only one filter and you can slide the new one in its place. If, like me, you had two filters, you have to remove the plastic rack that held the previous activated carbon filter. The only way to remove it is to break it into pieces and yank it out. Be careful not to scrape up your hands, you don't want blood on your interior.

6) Insert the new double-purpose filter in the heater module and reverse the above steps.

I first did this in November of 2001, will be doing it again this summer probably.

Have fun.
