This is a *really* messy job, and you'll stink of gasoline for a day or two at least. Be prepared with something that will contain a lot more gasoline than you thought would pop out of the filter.
I've done this change, and what helps immensely is to relieve the very high pressure in the filter and its lines BEFORE loosening them. To do this, locate the fuel pump fuse in the fuse panel on the side of the dash. Then start the car. While the car is running, pull the fuse. The car will stall. Then crank the engine a few more times (it won't start). This will draw off the pressure from the system and make changing the filter A LOT easier and less messy.
Always use new copper washers, as they deform when you tighten them and cannot be reused. Also be careful to hold the banjo fitting while you tighten the filter so that you don't rip the fitting off its hose while tightening.
It is actually a very simple job, just messy, but less so with the trick noted above.
