Is, that in order to clear the service message completely, the SID must be showing the date page when you perform the clearing operation. If the SID is showing either miles till empty, MPG, or any of the other various displays it can show, the clearing process will not work. Just make sure you are on the date diaplay page and press and hold the clear button in for at least 8-10 seconds untill you hear the chime nad see the word CLEARED on the SID, then again press and hold in the CLEAR button until you see the word SERVICE, then release the button.
For the future, your dealer can use the tech 2 to program the mileage interval between these messages, and the maximum it can go is 150,000 miles ( sorry Rod,too early in the morning for me to convert to kms). That way, the message will come on for the next owner of the car,at least for mine it will.
