Just for general information (And trust me this is the simple explanation) Saab uses a conductive epoxy instead of solder to connect the LCD to the PCB the polyimide flex cable between the LCD and PCD is emmbedded with a "silver ink" instead of the usual type conductors in the cable , and/or then a Isotropic or Anisotropic Conductive Adhesives film is layer over the ink during making of the cable or applied on the silver ink "pads" later. The cable is matched over the the lcd or pcb with a mechanical device (usually a computer operated machine with a precision x and y axis bed ) and a combination of heat (rf pulsed ) and exact pressure are applied usually for 3 to 5 seconds . On a sid unit there is a problem that once the screws holding the plastic to the board are removed the pads can pull away from the cable and the electrical connection decays or is lost completely . I have also seen Sid cables where the customer used a contact cleaner and this completly dissolves the silver epoxy contacts . When the foam tape method is used and some segment still are not on there is a chance that the is also bad “contacts” from the board connectors , we run the unit under a Video inspection microscope to spot any defects on the board. be careful, being that if the unit is open to many times it just deteriorates the display quality by “breaking down the epoxy connections .Wasyl
