The loaner probably gets driven harder or was just driven alot harder by the previous loanee. Except for the paddle shifters and the shape of the outside mirrors, the 02 and 03 are identical, all the significant mods were done to '02's.
This is one of my points about breaking in your new car. I've never had anyone with a break-in issue, that is a problem created by not exactly following the manufacturers recommendations for break-in. I have been witness to some cars that ran quite a bit better than average because they weren't babied during break-in or any other time.
Also what miles do the cars have? There seems to be a 5-10k improvement in most cars. Does the '03 loaner have more miles than your '02?
