pselah,
What I'm saying is that the companies that sell extended warranties are making money off of them. Over the last 15 years I have refused extended warranties on everything, electronics equipment, appliances and cars. To date the only thing I have run into that I could have used it on was one VCR that died right after the manufacturers warranty ran out. So I am ahead on those items. It is a matter of luck though, if you have reasonable luck you will be better off if you never buy an extended warranty on anything, just pay for the repairs as they come up. If you are really unlucky you will run into repair bills that eat up the insurers overhead, profits and the paid to the person who sold you the warranty. The only way to work this though is to never buy an extended warranty on anything, then you should come out ahead in the end. Now I excluded my last car because it didn't fall in the catagory of having been offered a warranty. Even if it was offered I wouldn't have taken it but I would likely have been better off if I had. As the second engine rebuild was over 5 grand (the first was paid for by Alfa Romeo, the second should have been too as they were both related to the same problem which was missed during the first rebuild).
