In 77K miles, the only big maintenance item was the 60K mile service, which is a major service performed every 60K miles, as opposed to a minor service which is performed every 30K miles. I did most of the major service myself, and then went to an independent mechanic for the rest.
My maintenance costs for the 9-5 are very low. Outside of regular oil changes every 6K miles or so, the 9-5 has had only one unscheduled repair... a throttle body replacement to the tune of $350.
After having a Saab 9000CS which was a money sink, I am very happy with the 9-5's very low maintenance costs. Using this board, you can do just about everything yourself (it is really very easy to change spark plugs or brakes or a muffler if you have the inclination). But even if you go to a Saab specialist, the costs to maintain the 9-5 are really very reasonable because the car was designed to be easy to maintain.
