Today we brought home our new baby, a 2000 SE Wagon in Frost Gray (seems more blue than gray, a beautiful color) w/ gray interior. 37K miles and almost a full year left on the 4/50 warranty. One owner lease return from Saab Financial Services auction. New pads & rotors on the front, and a new turbo just to be on the safe side. Everything looks, sounds, feels just terrific!!! We bought it from Al Bastan in Daly City, CA (see the picture at carfarm.biz/inventory) and got a good deal, about 19K. We take it to San Diego next week for a week's vacation--what fun we will have!
Just a few short questions for the gang:
1) The only tire (the original Michelin MXV4s) that looks bad is the front passenger side. The back ones have between 3/16 and 7/32". I've read pros/cons about replacing two tires rather than four. If I do replace just the fronts, putting the Michelins in front and the new ones in back, are there any specific tires that match well with the MXV4s? I'm considering the Turanza LS-H and Dunlop SP Sport A2 particularly. Mostly in-town driving, nothing high speed.
2) It appears that the 30K service was not done by the leasee before turning in the wagon (in fact, though the other services were done, nothing was stamped in the service booklet--aargh!). Oil change and brake fluid flush was done during inspection at Saab dealer before I took possession, so coolant flush, air filter and spark plug change look like the only significant 30K items. Isn't the 30K service required by SFSC? I got this information secondhand through Bastan, not directly with the dealer (Burlingame Saab), so I need to verify this. Also, can I have the booklet stamped retroactively through computer records so I have my own copy of when and what was done by the lessee?
3) We only got one key and one remote. We will order a replacement key on Monday. My wife doesn't want a banana remote--too bulky. Can the key arm/disarm the alarm, or can only the remote do this? Does the dealer make the replacement key onsite or is it ordered (we need it right away!)
4) Any East Bay service or tire shop recommendations? We live in Alameda.
Thanks for all of the posts--I can't tell you how many evenings I spent obsessively researching this purchase! Good to be part of the 9-5 family!
