What can I say, go for it if you feel you must. Personally I wouldn't even think of it. After more than a year of being sick and not driving, my wife finally started getting well and started driving little more than a month ago. The only problem was that her Fiat X1/9 just doesn't cut it from a safety point of view any more. Not around here especially where all the housewives have to have a bigger FUV (sic) then their neighbor and a goodly percentage of the guys think driving a monster pickup truck makes them real men. So ever since she started driving again, I have been hinting that she needed something newer and safer. She finally caved and got a brand new 9-3 last Friday. Wish she had gotten a hard top but even her convertible is a world better than the Fiat.

Now I happen to like my wife and grandkids (grandma drives the grandkids, the kids drive themselves), so when it comes tire time, I'm not going to cheap out and buy her some cheap piece of shit. She will get "V" rated at least, they will be the size the car is designed for, and likely they will not be all season tires like the 9-3 came with because summer tires are better around here (it rarely snows and she won't be driving in it anyway). Even if we lived in snow country I would get summer tires and a set of real winter tires and wheels for the snow season.

I really don't get most Americans, they buy a nice car and then cheap out on the tires. I don't believe how many bimmers and especially Volvo I see with rock hard 80,000 mile all season crap on them. Why do people pay that kind of money for a car and then cheap out on the tires? Maybe they have their fingers crossed as it is cheaper than a divorce.
