Well I drove Alfas for 20 years and have to admit that all three were a joy. No. 3 daughter who learned to drive in the second one (an '87 Milano Platinum) still hasn't forgiven me for selling it. Everything Italian is a blast to drive and they seem to know mufflers better than the rest of the world. Nothing sounds quite so nice. The only thing that got me into a Saab was the weekend when my wife got both of our cars, totalling my Alfa 164S and wrinkling her Fiat X1/9 (I'm innocent on that one, I wasn't even on the same continent). I was ready to stay with the 164 as it was fixable but there was no right rear fender to be had. The fact that they weren't supporting their loyalist when they were already planning on returning to the U.S. turned me off. So I got my 2000 Aero and what can I say, it is a better car in every respect than the 164S, bigger, faster, safer, better brakes and handling and significantly better gas milage to boot. So now I'm a confirmed Saab lover. Even talked my wife into getting a 9-3 last week.
