2a - I like to keep it above 2K, but the Aero engine is incredibly over-engineered and has a very high ratio of bearing area to displacement, so it can take a pretty good amount of lugging. This is a fabulous engine, very strong, very durable.
2b - The shift light can be turned off (programmed). There is NO legal reason not to do this or for a dealer to refuse to do this. The only legal requirement is that the light be on at the port of entry. There is NO legal restriction on dealers regarding this, and they are free to turn it off or on at the customers request. Any dealer that refuses simply doesn't know what he's talking about. Believe me on this, I have researched it extensively. I've have had it turned off by dealers on two different 9-5 Aeros.
3 - There IS NOT a timing belt or timing chain that needs to be replaced in the Saab 4 cylinder engine. The valve cover never needs to come off of this engine - it is bullet proof. The 6 cyl engine does have a timing belt/chain that needs maintenance, but not the 4, which is what is in the Aero.
Like many cars, there IS a serpentine belt that drives the water pump, a/c pump & alternator which needs replacing about every 60K miles, and there are two associated pullies that should be replaced at the same time, but this is small change, and is the new generation of the "fan belt".
