Took my 9-5 (1999 / 78,900 miles / black) to the dealer today to have a look at the cracked paint at the top of both c-pillars. Mainly I took it in just to see if they would cover the repair even though the car is out of warranty.

I came in armed with all the information about this I'd gathered on these Saabnet forums, at least 15 reports of other 9-5 owners with this problem, and at least half of them reporting that they had it repaired under warranty. I'm not sure if those vehicles were still in the warranty period or if this was a "goodwill" on the part of Saab.

The dealership (Perillo Saab, Chicago) spoke with Saab USA, and Saab offered to cover $250 of the repair, of a total $320. So I am out $70 for the repair. They tell me the car will be ready Monday.

I'm quite happy with this middle-ground deal and wanted to post it here just in case anyone else needs a little "ammo" of their own if they find the same problem with their 9-5.
