Last week I posted because I couldn't find a good tie down location for the front of my canoe on my Aero wagon. Tim Brown got back to me with a really good idea of making a bracket which would bolt to the same hole used by the towing eye (which sits too low to use as a tie down itself) I like that idea and I'm currently looking into making a bracket which can be bolted there for future use.
For now, since I'm as short on time as anyone else and my vacation is coming up soon, here's my solution:
With a bit of fiddling, a small loop of rope can be tied around the front cross member (right where the towing eye attaches- at the center) I've left the small loop there as it won't affect anything, but when its time to tie the canoe (or anything else requiring a front tie down) I can simply attach to the loop of rope. I suppose you could tie directly to the cross member if you like, but I thought it would be simpler to leave a small loop of rope there all of the time which is far easier to tie to (tying around the cross member takes a bit of patience and you have to crawl under the car)
The only problem I can forsee is the rope passes fairly close (but not too close- perhaps 4-6") to the exhaust, but the plastic cover seems to be doing OK so hopefully the rope won't melt. I've got a week before my vacation, so if the rope hasn't melted off by then I figure I'll be OK with this solution!
Thanks for everyones input!
