Like many people who choose high-end cars, he has plenty of money and can lease whatever he wants. The differences between the cars are so minor these days (they all have great engines, transmissions, interiors, etc.) that everything else being equal, small annoyances like bad SIDs become major annoyances.
It is like my old Kitchen Aid dishwasher. When it was built, it was enough to just wash dishes well. It didn't matter if it was noisy and consumed a lot of hot water. It was a huge convenience to have. But now, I can get any number of dishwashers that clean dishes properly. Now the choice comes down to whether it has a small feature that another doesn't.
So unfortunately annoyances like bad SIDs will tip the difference these days.
