there's not much to choose. The V-6 carries higher regular maintenance costs, what with periodic belt changes (Saab buys the first change at 60,000 miles), very expensive thermostat, more spark plugs, and it uses more fuel. The V-6 seems less prone to DI failures (must be using the same high quality circuitry as Mrs. G's Olds Intrigue, which also features DI), certainly is imune from chain problems (it has no chain), and the exhaut turbine housing is elegantly cast as part of the exhaust manifold. For buyers of a lease vehicle, it may be more tolerant of slightly neglectful maintenance practices.
But the V-6 often commands a much higher price (it does when new) than the 2.3, and provides very little additional power. Being an odd angle (54 degrees) between banks, it is not in perfect balance. And it is not available with a manual trans.
