Hi folks, just got back from a trip to the west coast (Gulf Islands)with our '02 Linear (5spd)and lots of long steep ascents. First the questions: Is the relatively short maximum boost duration (observed about 10 seconds) an inherent design feature of ECU controlled turbos in the LPT or is something wrong with my ECU/turbo? Is this duration designed to prolong the life of the turbo? Is an auto tranny better suited to the ECU/turbo?

The background: The car performed beautifully except for when it came to the long ascents in the mountains. Simon from Vancouver could attest to these such as the Coquihalla Hwy. which climbs steadily for at least 10 to 15 km at 7 to 10% grades. The road is wide and relatively straight (max posted 110kph) so of course I try to see what the Linear can do while observing the boost meter as well as safety. What I experienced was not impressive. Approach speed was 120kph (5th gear). The boost meter indicated max boost for about 10 seconds and then it would drop off with of course the resultant loss of power and speed. If I refrained from gearing down, the boost meter would bounce back to yellow for a just a second and then drop (sign of confusion?) until I had no choice but to gear down. Gearing down gave me the 10 seconds or so of steady maximum boost as before and this would also be unsustained. To me, the most effective method on this long hill ascent was the use of proper gearing whilst help from the turbo was small and sporadic. Would an Aero have a better boost duration? Could an ECU upgrade (ie Speedparts)at least help somewhat or is the answer simply having sufficient engine displacement and leaving the turbo at home? Thanks for any insights. BTW, still love the Linear but wish I had an Aero.
