Valve cover gaskets will at some point and time leak. Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: I understand ...., hdm, Tue, 29 Jul 2003 04:18:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The valve covers on the 9-5 V6 is totally redesigned compared to the NG900/9000 V6 (aluminum versus plastic) and they seem to hold up much longer before allowing the gasket to go bad.
Even the old 900 16V engine with a really sturdy aluminum valve cover had oil leaks from the gasket after some 50-60K miles.
As for the engine, I beleive that the cast iron block is the same 3.0L block that was used in the V6 engine for the 9000 model.
The crank shaft used is the same for the two blocks. But everything else around it is most likely redesigned. Oil pan I know for sure since the 9-5 uses an aluminum pan with anerobic sealant and the 9000 had a pressed sheet metal pan with cork gasket that leaks all the time.
